Students of the Fashion Department designed original outfits to match specific balls, under the guidance of the style teachers and Katarina Van Den Bossche. All the BA students could design proposals and 10 looks were selected from the sketches to be implemented by Rosalinde Heerkens and Aurélie Callewaert of the Antwerp pattern studio Trois-Quarts. Walter Van Beirendonck, Head of the Fashion Department, came up with the idea and concept for this fashion landmark in the city at the request of MoMu.

De look for this Fashion Ball was designed by Ching-Lin Chen, Taiwanese, 3 BA 2021, Antwerp Fashion Department, so we asked him a few questions:

Why do you study in Antwerp?

Ching-Lin: Antwerp is a city full of history, and at the same time, the city atmosphere is also very vibrant. I also love to explore different surprises in any corner of Antwerp.

Why did you participate in the Fashion Balls project?

Ching-Lin: The collaboration with the fashion museum is also a meaningful project and the "Ball" installation is also really interesting. During the workshop, I really enjoyed the process of discussing pattern-making with teachers, especially, calculating the volume and proportion of clothes, which really challenge me.

What did you design and what is your inspiration behind it?

Ching-Lin: A potted plant is my first idea, and I used the Origami technique to create the volume from 2D into 3D. Through the elements of flowers and rainbow colors, I hope our society could embrace more positive energy and hope during this pandemic.
